Green Abundance By Design

 Ecological Landscape Technician

About This Role:

You're not just maintaining landscapes, you're improving them.

As an Ecological Landscape Technician at Green Abundance by Design, you'll be part of daily efforts to transform suburban properties into thriving ecological habitats. You'll install native plant gardens that feed pollinators and birds. You'll remove invasive species that crowd out beneficial plants. You'll practice landscape care methods that build soil health and support biodiversity.

This is outdoor work with purpose. Every native plant you install creates habitat. Every invasive species you remove gives native plants a fighting chance. Every property you touch becomes a little more alive, a little more beneficial as an ecosystem.

You'll work as part of a small crew alongside experienced supervisors who will teach you both the ecological principles and the practical skills. If you're someone who wants your daily work to contribute to environmental restoration, not just lawn maintenance, this is it.

Why We Built This Differently:

Eleven years ago, we founded Green Abundance by Design with a vision: Transition the landscaping industry ethos toward ecological abundance, while providing genuine career sustainability for our team.

Traditional landscaping is built on long hours, seasonal uncertainty, weekend work, and burnout. We refused to accept that as the only model.

We've proven there's another way.

By focusing on specialized ecological services, operating from Abundance rather than scarcity, and charging appropriately for the premium work we deliver, we've built a model that works:

  • 52 weeks of salary while working approximately 45 weeks

  • 8+ weeks paid time off (no unpaid winter layoffs)

  • 40-hour work weeks with no weekend work

  • Year-round financial stability even though fieldwork is seasonal

  • Real investment in your development with training, licensing support, and mentorship

We call our operating principles B.A.A.S.E.D. because we believe businesses should be built on something solid:

Balance between meaningful work and a full life outside of it
Accountability at all levels—for results, safety, and integrity
Abundance in how we think, plan, and value our work
Stewardship of land and people
Excellence in craft, science, and execution
Diversity of ecosystems, perspectives, and ideas

Why This Role Matters (for You):

You care about environmental impact. This work directly supports native plant communities, increases biodiversity, and creates habitat for local wildlife. You'll see butterflies in the gardens you plant, hear birds in the shrubs you install, and watch landscapes become healthier because of your efforts. If you need your work to have meaning beyond a paycheck, this delivers.

You want to build valuable skills. You'll learn native plant installation, invasive species identification and management, ecological site assessment, sustainable landscape care practices, and how to operate a wide range of equipment safely. These aren't generic landscaping skills—they're ecological restoration competencies that are increasingly in demand.

You're ready for a career with real stability. We provide year-round income, and the kind of work-life Balance that most landscaping companies don't offer. You shouldn't have to choose between outdoor work you enjoy and having financial security.

You want to grow with a company that values you. We provide training, mentorship, and support for your development. As you build skills and demonstrate strong performance, opportunities to specialize or take on crew leadership roles become available. We're invested in helping you succeed long-term.

What You'll Actually Do:

Your days will be spent outdoors, working as part of a crew traveling to properties throughout MetroWest Massachusetts:

  • Install native plant gardens: Prepare planting beds, install diverse native species designed to support pollinators and wildlife, mulch appropriately for ecological health

  • Support invasive plant management: Assist with identifying, treating, and removing invasive species that threaten local biodiversity

  • Operate equipment safely: Use hand and power tools with proper technique and safety protocols

  • Learn continuously: Develop plant identification skills, understand ecological principles, master equipment operation, improve your craft

  • Represent the company professionally: Treat client properties with care, communicate clearly, embody our B.A.A.S.E.D. values

  • Inclement weather projects: On days when weather prevents fieldwork, you'll do shop work, equipment maintenance, or complete training modules that deepen your knowledge.

  • Genuine interest in ecology, native plants, and environmental work (it's what makes the hard days worth it)

  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license with clean driving record and reliable transportation
